How 1 became 2!

I picked up this turtleneck a while back at the local Goodwill, wasn't sure how I would repurpose it until today.  It hit me: I could make leg warmers and embellish a plain cardigan.  Here is the how-to:

For Leg Warmers:

Cut the sleeves off at the seams

I used elastic ruffle trim for the tops of the leg warmers.  Cut a straight line across where the sleeve was attached, to square off the top of the leg warmer.  This is where you will pin the elastic on,  the hem on the sleeve now becomes your ankle hem.

I measured below my knee and cut the elastic 2"shorter for a good tight fit. Pin elastic to the top and sew.

How fun are these??!!!

Plain cardigan re-do

Cut the remainder of the turtleneck into strips, width wise.  

Ruffle them using a basting stitch on a sewing machine, or gather by hand.

I gathered 5, and only used 4 of them.  Pin onto sweater then sew on with a zig-zag stitch.

Too cute! Can't wait to wear it with the leg warmers :)

DIY earring display

This is not by any means, a new creation for all of us devoted craft blog followers. It is however, a project that I finally got around to doing.  I found a clearance open back frame at Hobby Lobby and originally thought I would use it somewhere in the house as decor, not functionally as an earring display.  I enlisted the help (and expertise) of the husband and with a little hot glue and some window screen, voila, a lovely way to display some of my favorite pieces!  

Love is in the air, and on the mantle!

The mantle looked so lonely after the Christmas decorations were put away, that I had to get a jump start on Valentine's.   Mirror from Kirkland's; open back frame, wreath, and angel from Michael's.  "XOXO" sign made from Dollar Tree black frames and Walmart red floral dept. stones hot glued to scrapbook paper.

The Valentine's tablescapes will be coming up later this week.

Happy New Year fellow bloggers!  Thought I would share the tablescape I created for our celebration tomorrow night.  All themed decor from Party City (I love that place!)

Christmas Craftree-ness

I decided to make the ever so cute ornament trees you see everywhere.  Let's just say, I don't need to do another one anytime soon.  It turned out really cute, but was quite time consuming.  I used 6 boxes of ornaments from the dollar store, hot glue, a white styrofoam cone, and LOTS of patience, all for a total  total cost of $10.  

Start by gluing one row around at a time.

Slowly you will work your way to the top.

Ta-da!

I employed my little elves to help me with this peppermint tree.  They unwrapped while I glued.  Oddly enough, this tree went much faster then the ornament tree.  Same process and cute too!

Dont't forget last year's ribbon and ruffle trees !
